This is an ultrasound of the heart and one of the most common investigations requested by cardiologists. It is an examination of the heart with the use of sound waves to demonstrate the structure and inner workings of the heart and provides extremely valuable information about the state of health of the heart.

Echocardiography is used to :

• investigate conditions such as raised blood pressure (hypertension),
• heart failure,
• cardiomyopathy (unusual thickening of the hearts walls)
• assessment of murmurs and congenital cardiac defects.
